Marshall Rosenberg and The Center For Non-Violent Communication: A Tool.

Learning English can be baffling enough, on a very basic level, but learning to decipher gestures, cultural intonations, and most importantly, intent, is crucial to mastering your ability to "read between the lines".


A very useful tool has been developed by Marshall Rosenberg and The Center For Nonviolent Communication, or CNVC.  A link is posted here for your exploration, as well as an NVC "Feelings Inventory".

The following are words we use when we want to express a combination 
of emotional states and physical sensations. This list is neither exhaustive
nor definitive.  It is meant as a starting place to support anyone who wishes
to engage in a process of deepening self-discovery and to facilitate greater
understanding and connection between people.

There are two parts to this list: feelings we may have when our needs
are being met and feelings we may have when our needs are not being met.

  1. Empathy with oneself is a good place to begin. It's been said in NVC workshops that when we have that, we speak in "Giraffe" (with a big heart), and that when Empathy is missing, we speak in "Jackal".
